Único ganador hasta la fecha de cuatro premios de la Academia por mejor dirección y único que ha ganado dos veces consecutivas. Considerado un verdadero artista de la cinematografía y la dirección, nunca le interesó la fama ni la gloria, solo hacer lo que le gustaba: películas. Amenamente escrito, rico en anécdotas y con una filmografía completa, es un libro para los amantes del cine. Es bueno haber visto algunas de las películas que se reseñan, al menos las mas conocidas. A diferencia de otras biografías, el ocaso de la vida del biografiado no es exaltado y sus momentos terminales son pasados casi por encima, su decrepitud, como debe ser, porque en las biografías debe resaltarse la gloria, lo positivo. Bien.
